Enjoy a Whale Watch Tour with Pacific Whale Foundation in Maui
The 5th largest of the whale species is the humpback whale, weighing 80,000 pounds and 50 feet long! Join Pacific Whale Foundation, offered by Hawaii Travel Network, on an incredible search for these majestic animals during one of the most fantastic Maui Attractions. With a Maui Whale Watching adventure, you will depart from either the Maalaea Harbor or the Lahaina Harbor and experience a day under the Hawaiian sun like no other. Every Pacific Whale Foundation excursion has a professional naturalist on board to explain, distinguish, and point out interesting facts about whales and other wildlife that make the South Pacific their home. The naturalists at the Pacific Whale Foundation include the humpback whale even though it uses the South Pacific’s tropical waters only as their winter home when escaping the frigid waters of the North Pacific Ocean. The Pacific Whale Foundation biologists will identify specific features only found on the humpback whale. Throughout this Maui Whale Watching tour offered by Hawaii Travel Network, you will learn the humpback whale has the longest pectoral fins of all whales and two blowholes found on the top of its head. These blowholes are positioned side by side providing the whale with the ability to breathe air when it rises from the surface of the water. An obvious and distinquishable feature is the tubercles found on its lower jaw and on top of the whale’s head with one wire-like hair growing out of each tubercle. Studies show evidence that the strong hairs provide a way for the whale to detect movement and action in the waters nearby. Although research biologists have studied and investigated the humpback whale for many years, they still do not have all the answers nor do they claim to understand all of the behaviors and characteristics of the “King of the Ocean.” Pacific Whale Foundation Whale Watch tour guides welcome you to join one of the most informative and adventurous Maui Attractions for an exciting Maui Whale Watching adventure. You will learn many facts and interesting information throughout the day on a Maui Whale Watching excursion with Pacific Whale Foundation. Hawaii Travel Network offers many Maui Attractions that offer Maui Tours that will search for the humpback whale, but the best Maui Attractions are with Pacific Whale Foundation. You will learn on this Whale Watch tour that annually, hundreds of humpback whales migrate to the warm tropical waters surrounding the Hawaiian archipelago. Whales bring their song that to us sounds like moans and groans to us, but to the whales it may be their sweet melodies of a mating call, one male fighting for a mate, or other signals of communication. This characteristic of the humpback whale is still in the research process, but in the meantime, you will have the opportunity with Pacific Whale Foundation to listen to their bellows through a special piece of equipment called a hydrophone. This is a high-powered underwater microphone dropped under the surface of the ocean to pick up the sounds of the humpback whale. Only the male humpback whale sings and its tune will alter throughout the migrating season. Humpback whales migrate annually from the bitter cold waters of Alaska and travel over 3,000 miles to the tropical warm waters of Hawaii to mate and give birth. It is an absolute necessity for humpback whales to find warmer waters to birth their young because newborn calves are not born with a layer of blubber to shield them from the cold. If humpback whales could not birth their young in warm waters the infant calf would die. The island of Maui has been recorded to be the humpback whales’ favorite place for a birthing center! There are more humpback whales located in the ocean waters surrounding Maui than any other Hawaiian Island. The first time you spot a whale, it produces quite an adrenaline rush! It is a moment you will cherish forever. Hawaii Travel Network would like to help you make this opportunity really happen by providing affordable prices for each Maui Whale Watching excursion.
